Create initiatives

Create an initiative, set dates and status, and link Key Results and projects.

Create initiatives

Create an initiative when several projects should roll up to one strategic outcome.

Before you start

Confirm:

  • Which Key Results the initiative supports (optional but recommended for OKR traceability)
  • Owner and contributing team
  • Target date stakeholders expect
  • Permission to create initiatives in the workspace

Create from Initiatives list

Open Initiatives from the workspace sidebar (/initiatives).

Click New initiative or +.

Enter title (required), description, and optional icon.

Set status — typically planned before work starts, active when delivery begins.

Choose owner, team, priority, and target date.

Link Key Results the initiative supports.

Save. Add projects and an initial status update from the initiative page.

Status values

Initiatives use: proposed, planned, active, completed, canceled. Default on create is planned.

After creation:

  1. Open the initiative detail page.
  2. Add existing projects or create new ones from the projects section.
  3. Ensure each project has dates and milestones when delivery is underway.

Projects may belong to different teams while sharing one initiative.

Documents

Attach initiative-level documents for specs or decision logs — separate from project docs.

Permissions

Creating initiatives requires initiative create permission (capability initiatives plus role). If New initiative is disabled, ask a workspace admin.
