Members and roles
Manage who belongs to the workspace and what each role can do.
Workspace membership and custom roles live under Administration.
Overview
Open Settings from the workspace menu.
- Members (
Settings → Administration → Members,/settings/users) — people in this workspace, pending invites, and per-person access. - Roles (
Settings → Administration → Roles,/settings/roles) — named permission sets. A role name grants nothing on its own.
Members is visible when you can read the roster or view invitations. Roles appears when your workspace role can read roles. Saving changes on Roles needs role-management permission on top of that.
Managing user roles
On Members, search by name or email. Filters include All, Admins, Members, Pending invites, and Suspended. Groups in the list include Active, Invited, and Inactive.
Invite is documented on Invite members. Export CSV downloads the current roster.
Changing a member's role
Change role… opens Change name's role. Pick a workspace role. Workspace Owner is protected — ownership moves with Transfer ownership on Workspaces, not by renaming someone Owner here.
You can also Manage teams… for that person, Update name…, and Update email….
Suspend a member
Suspend user… stops that person from accessing Pulse until you Reactivate user…. Remove from workspace… drops them from this workspace only; they lose access to everything in it.
Role types
Pulse seeds Workspace Owner and Workspace Member. You can add custom Workspace role and Team role entries from New role. Seeded roles that Pulse provides do not count toward the custom-role quota ({{current}} of {{limit}} custom roles).
Workspace owner
Workspace Owner is protected. It cannot be edited. Transfer it from Settings → Administration → Workspace → Transfer ownership. The last owner cannot leave until they transfer.
Workspace roles
Custom workspace roles are labels plus a permission matrix. Start from a template if you want a head start. Archive, Duplicate, Restore, and Delete (including merge-by-replacement) are in the row menu. At the custom-role limit, creating, duplicating, and restoring pause until you delete or merge a role, or the workspace moves to a larger plan.
A role named Admin is still just that name — check Permissions, not the label.
Member
Workspace Member is the seeded member role. Team roles apply inside a team (team managers, not team owners). See Teams.
