Timeline
Show projects across start and target dates, with milestones and dependencies.
Show projects across time so you can scan dates, milestones, and dependencies.
Overview
Timeline is a layout on the Projects list. Each project with a start date is a bar from that date to the target date (if one is set). It keeps project planning on a calendar, separate from issue List and Board.
Issue lists stay List and Board. Objectives lists also switch to Timeline. Initiatives use a separate Gantt at /initiatives/gantt — see Initiatives. The project graph is a progress chart on a project's details sidebar, not this layout.
Accessing Timeline View
To open Timeline on projects:
- Open Projects.
- Open Display options (
ShiftV), or use the layout pills beside it. - Choose Timeline.
Cmd/Ctrl B cycles List, Board, and Timeline. Cmd/Ctrl Shift B cycles back.
You can save Timeline as the layout on a custom view.
How to use Timeline view
Product roadmap planning
Bars follow start and target dates. Projects without a start date sit in No dates. Click that row (Schedule this project on the timeline) to place it.
Milestones with a target date appear as diamonds on the bar. Drag a diamond to move the milestone date.
Project dependencies draw between bars. Drag from a bar's dependency handle (Drag to add dependency) to connect projects.
The timeline's Today control jumps to today. The range menu sets Week, Month, Quarter, or Year. Default is Week.
Cross-team project coordination
Group by Teams, Initiative, Lead, Status, or Priority from Display options. Drag a bar to change start and target dates. Click a bar to open the project sidebar. View Project opens the full page; Copy Link copies it.
Resource planning
Turn fields on under Display options → Timeline options → Display properties. Available chips are Milestones, Priority, Status, Health, Lead, and Teams. Dependencies stay on the bars. When those properties are on, the sidebar shows inline status, priority, lead, and health.
Timeline Customization
- Grouping — Status, Priority, Lead, Teams, Initiative, or No grouping.
- Range — Week, Month, Quarter, or Year from the timeline control. Timeline range in Display options limits the window: All time, This quarter, Last quarter, Last 30 days, Next 30 days, Next 6 months, This year, or Custom range….
- Display properties — Milestones, Priority, Status, Health, Lead, Teams.
- Show project list — hides or shows the left project sidebar.
Filters and saved views work the same as on List. See Display options.
